Circular economy certifications awarded to nineteen hotels in Cyprus
On March 24, 2026, the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) held an award ceremony in Nicosia to grant Circular Economy Certificates to 19 hotel businesses. The initiative is part of the 'Promotion of Circular Economy in Hotel Facilities' project, which aims to support the green transition of the tourism sector. This project was implemented in cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and is funded by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility, under the Cyprus Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026. During the event, Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis and Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos addressed the importance of sustainable tourism models and environmental responsibility. OEB President George Pantelidis noted the role of these certifications in upgrading the national tourism product. One notable recipient mentioned is the Aliathon Resort in the Paphos district. The initiative, which has been in development for four years, serves as a strategic effort to enhance the sustainability of the Cypriot hospitality industry.
