Omonia leads Cypriot league into playoffs with 61 points
Omonia has concluded the first phase of the 2025-26 Cypriot championship in first place with 61 points, successfully surpassing the 60-point threshold. Statistical data since the 2007-08 season shows that the team leading at the end of the regular season goes on to win the title in approximately 80-82% of cases. Historically, achieving over 60 points after 26 matches is a common trend among league leaders, occurring 12 times since the playoff format was introduced. While some teams like APOEL in 2023-24 finished with 59 points, Omonia’s current performance matches previous benchmarks set by clubs like Anorthosis and APOEL. There have been five recorded instances where a team earned over 60 points but failed to finish in first place, including examples from AEL, AEK, Apollon, and Aris. Since the 2007-08 season, only three major reversals have occurred where the leader at the end of the first phase did not win the championship. Omonia, managed by Henning Berg, has maintained its top position for two months heading into the playoff stage.
