36-year-old arrested for theft of war hero busts in Germasogeia
Cyprus Police have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the theft of several busts of war heroes in Germasogeia. The theft of the statues, which occurred early last Saturday, involved figures commemorating Panagiotis Tsangaris, Trofimos Koulle, Evangelos Georgiou, and Sophronis Sophroniou, who died during the 1974 Turkish invasion. During the investigation, authorities located and recovered one of the stolen busts, which has been entered into evidence. The suspect remains in custody as police continue their search for the remaining items. The Deputy Mayor of Germasogeia stated that the act violates the historical memory and cultural identity of the area. No further arrests have been reported at this time.
