Police conduct nationwide security and traffic operations
The Cyprus Police conducted nationwide preventive patrols and security operations on Thursday evening to maintain public order. Conflicting reports exist regarding the scale of the operations: some sources report 902 vehicles checked with 1,110 people screened, while others report 522 vehicles and 727 individuals. Police apprehended three individuals for various offenses including illegal entry, property possession, and drug-related charges, though initial reports mentioned five arrests for more severe crimes. Officers inspected 42 to 56 commercial premises, resulting in 13 to 25 citations. Traffic enforcement led to 174 or 511 total complaints, including 55 to 217 speeding violations. Additionally, authorities administered 203 alcohol tests identifying five positive drivers and performed narcotic tests identifying two positive cases. Throughout the night, police impounded between 10 and 21 vehicles.
