Police conduct nationwide operations resulting in multiple arrests and traffic citations
Police forces in Cyprus conducted organized overnight patrols and inspections across the region to ensure public order and crime prevention. Reports regarding the number of arrests vary, with some sources citing seven individuals detained for offenses including burglary, theft, knife possession, domestic violence, and assaulting an officer, while other reports specify three arrests for theft, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice. Traffic enforcement operations led to significant discrepancies in recorded data: some reports indicate 195 traffic citations and 418 vehicle checks, while others note 90 citations and 201 drivers checked. Additionally, 33 to 47 premises were inspected, resulting in between three and eight violations. Authorities also reported 36 to 19 speeding violations, one to 51 alcohol tests, and up to three positive drug tests. During these operations, three to four vehicles were impounded by police. Officials stated that these coordinated, targeted policing activities will continue on a daily basis.
