Police conduct nationwide operations resulting in 20 arrests
On the night of May 10, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted nationwide preventive operations in urban areas to maintain public order. Authorities reported a total of 20 arrests for various offenses, including brawling, carrying a knife, malicious damage, attempted theft, and illegal residence. Specifically, police stopped 488 vehicles, checked 651 individuals, and inspected 57 establishments, issuing 10 complaints against the latter. Traffic enforcement resulted in 234 citations, with 87 cases involving speeding. Additionally, 17 drivers tested positive for alcohol and six tested positive for drugs, leading to the impoundment of nine vehicles. In a separate specific incident in Paphos, five people were arrested after police stopped a car and recovered quantities of cocaine, cannabis, magic mushrooms, and methamphetamine along with cash. All suspects in the Paphos case remain in custody as investigations continue.
