Police conduct countrywide law enforcement operations
Cypriot police conducted coordinated, countrywide security operations on Wednesday and Thursday nights to maintain public order and prevent crime. Reports vary regarding the specific scale of the activities. On Thursday, authorities made five arrests for offences including burglary and illegal residency, checked 349 drivers and 101 passengers, and inspected 33 premises. Thursday's traffic enforcement resulted in 178 fines, including 97 for speeding, the impoundment of three vehicles, and two positive drug tests. In contrast, Wednesday's operation involved four arrests for arson, theft, and other charges. During the Wednesday operation, police checked 565 drivers and 144 passengers, inspected 44 premises, and issued 327 traffic fines. Wednesday's traffic enforcement also included 86 speeding violations, 10 impounded vehicles, and three alcohol-related violations alongside two positive drug tests. Police confirmed that such targeted operations continue daily across all urban areas.
