Cyprus police conduct nationwide crime prevention operation
The Cyprus Police carried out a series of nationwide operations overnight aimed at crime prevention and maintaining public order. Reports from various sources provided conflicting figures regarding the scale of the operation. Some reports indicated 520 vehicle checks and 690 individuals screened, while later official updates cited 665 vehicle checks and 860 individuals screened. Six arrests were reported, involving offenses such as drug possession and attempted destruction of property with explosives. Traffic enforcement resulted in between 246 and 419 citations, with speeding violations ranging from 59 to 232 cases depending on the source report. Furthermore, between 9 and 10 vehicles were impounded during the inspections. Authorities also performed between 21 and 50 checks on commercial premises, resulting in 3 to 12 regulatory complaints. The police stated that these coordinated efforts will continue as part of a daily strategy to enhance public safety.
