The Cyprus Police have carried out a series of nationwide crime prevention and traffic enforcement operations to enhance public safety. Reports from different sources provide varying statistics on the results of these overnight activities. One set of data indicates that 602 vehicles were stopped, resulting in 369 traffic violations, 239 of which involved speeding, and the arrest of eight individuals for various offenses, including arson and assault on police. Another report notes slightly different figures, citing 435 vehicles stopped, 196 traffic violations, and five arrests. Authorities also inspected premises to ensure compliance with operating licenses, with one report noting 22 inspections and another 24. Furthermore, officials conducted numerous breathalyzer and drug tests, with varied results across the reports. These operations are part of a broader ongoing effort, including a scheduled traffic awareness week running from April 13 to April 19, 2026, in collaboration with the European police network ROADPOL. The police emphasize that these efforts are essential for maintaining public order and preventing fatal road accidents.
