Cyprus police conduct coordinated operations and announce Easter road safety measures
During coordinated police operations in Cyprus on Tuesday night, seven individuals were arrested for various offenses, including weapon possession, driving under the influence, failure to appear in court, and illegal residency. Police inspected 783 drivers and passengers, alongside 32 premises, resulting in 412 traffic-related complaints and the seizure of 7 vehicles. Specifically, officers recorded 122 speeding cases, 39 seat belt violations, 34 mobile phone uses while driving, and 33 instances of driving without a valid license. Additionally, 8 traffic-related cases are currently under investigation. Separately, authorities announced increased road safety measures for the upcoming Easter period, spanning April 9 to 13, to prevent serious collisions. Police emphasized a policy of zero tolerance for major traffic violations and are also actively monitoring incidents related to traditional Easter bonfires and firecracker usage. These efforts aim to maintain public order and enhance the general sense of security across the island.
