Two suspects detained following restaurant bombing in Limassol
The Limassol District Court has ordered a six-day detention for two men, aged 19 and 21, following a bomb attack on a restaurant near the Limassol Castle early Tuesday, March 24. The suspects were identified through CCTV footage and witness testimony, leading to their arrest on Wednesday. The 19-year-old was apprehended while reporting to the police station for unrelated restrictive terms, while the 21-year-old was captured hours later after attempting to flee. Evidence includes a vehicle linked to the scene and a hoodie matching one worn by the perpetrators. The restaurant belongs to a Russian businessman, Dmitriy Punin, who has been the target of three criminal acts in recent months. Separately, police are investigating a reported shooting at a different Limassol property after a casing was found. Authorities also noted a third, unrelated incident involving a bombing at a flower shop on Thursday morning. The suspects in the restaurant bombing are identified by reports as Turkish Cypriots, and their lawyers contested the duration of the detention request.
