President Christodoulides to announce economic measures and updates on Cyprus negotiations

President Nikos Christodoulides has scheduled a public address for this Thursday to announce new targeted economic measures aimed at mitigating the impact of rising energy costs and regional instability. He stated that over €100 million in support is already in place and that the nation's current fiscal stability allows for further intervention. Regarding the Cyprus settlement, the President expressed cautious optimism following his recent meeting with the UN Secretary-General, noting the UN chief's political will to restart negotiations. Christodoulides also addressed a recent leak from a National Council meeting, criticizing the disclosure of confidential details. Additionally, the President confirmed that the government has developed a plan for negotiations with the United Kingdom concerning the status of the British Bases. He specified that Turkish Cypriots could participate in discussions regarding these bases only if they return to the framework of the Republic of Cyprus. Finally, he emphasized that Turkey must recognize the Republic of Cyprus as a precondition for broader diplomatic progress.
