Investigation into gym bombing in Nicosia
On the night of March 14, an explosive device detonated at a gym in Nicosia, causing minor damage to the building and a vehicle owned by a 29-year-old woman. Security footage indicates that a perpetrator approached the site on a motorcycle before the device was triggered. Nicosia police are currently investigating, with a primary focus on the professional activities of one of the gym's co-owners, who serves as a futsal referee. While the owners claim they received no threats and have no personal disputes, investigators are examining a recent match that faced complaints regarding officiating. There are conflicting reports regarding the number of perpetrators, with some sources mentioning one individual on camera and others citing witness accounts of two attackers. In response to the incident, the Cyprus Referees Association decided to abstain from all duties for the week and requested a temporary suspension of the national futsal championship from the Cyprus Football Association. Despite the attack, the gym resumed normal operations on the same day.
