EU parliamentary committees hold inter-parliamentary conference on COSAC

The House of Representatives of Cyprus hosted an inter-parliamentary conference of the COSAC Committees on European Affairs on Monday. The event, which took place via video link as part of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, brought together delegations from EU member states, the European Parliament, candidate countries, and observers. A preparatory meeting of the Presidential Troika, including Denmark, Cyprus, Ireland, and the European Parliament, preceded the main conference. Harris Georgiades, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, opened the proceedings by emphasizing the need for an autonomous and cohesive EU in response to the crises in the Middle East and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. During the sessions, participants expressed solidarity with Cyprus and Ukraine. Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives, highlighted the role of Cyprus as a pillar of stability in the region. The conference aimed to address the EU's strategic role in international security. The proceedings concluded on Monday following discussions on these geopolitical challenges.
