Cyprus mandates acceptance of Digital Citizen application documents

The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of Cyprus announced that all organizations and businesses must accept digital documents presented through the Digital Citizen app during in-person transactions. The ministry stated that these digital documents hold absolute legal equivalence to their physical counterparts, and any refusal to accept them is legally equivalent to rejecting a physical document. Citizens with a CY Login account can store their national ID, driving license, vehicle MOT certificate, and Fan Card on their mobile devices. Verification of document authenticity is conducted via the app, requiring no specialized equipment or separate accounts for the checking officer. Since May 2025, the system has been integrated with Greece’s Gov.gr Wallet, allowing mutual recognition of digital IDs and driving licenses between the two countries. The ministry has called on all entities to comply with these requirements immediately. Future updates scheduled for 2026 will include document support for foreign nationals.
