Cyprus mandate on digital citizen platform documents

The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of Cyprus has issued a formal reminder that digital documents within the 'Digital Citizen' application are legally equivalent to physical documents. All organizations, companies, professionals, and public services operating within the Republic of Cyprus are mandated to accept these digital versions without exception for identification and verification purposes. Users with a CY Login account can currently store their national identity cards, driver's licenses, vehicle inspection certificates (MOT), and fan cards in the mobile application. The government confirmed that presenting these digital documents is fully valid for official checks. Furthermore, the ministry announced that additional document types, including those for foreign nationals, are scheduled to be integrated into the platform by 2026. This initiative is designed to modernize administrative procedures and facilitate daily interactions for citizens. Businesses and entities are legally required to comply with these regulations.
