Department of Labour Inspection warns about risks of amateur aromatic products

The Department of Labour Inspection (TEE) has issued a warning regarding the rapid increase in the amateur production of scented candles and home fragrance products. These items are frequently sold via social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, often produced in environments lacking proper ventilation or safety standards. The TEE cautions that ingredients such as essential oils, synthetic aromatic compounds, and solvents pose risks to human health, including skin irritation, eye damage, and respiratory issues. Furthermore, these substances can be harmful to the environment. The department clarified that marketing a product as 'natural' does not guarantee its safety. Under European Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP Regulation), all producers and importers of chemical products are legally obligated to classify hazards and ensure proper packaging and labeling. This regulation applies to all types of fragrances, including sprays and electric diffusers. Consumers are advised to be aware of the chemical nature of these items regardless of their marketing claims.
