UK Minister for Europe Stephen Doughty to visit Cyprus for security and political talks
United Kingdom Minister of State for Europe Stephen Doughty is scheduled to arrive in Cyprus on Wednesday afternoon. He will land at Paphos airport and visit the British Akrotiri air base, which reportedly sustained damage from an Iranian-made drone on March 2. In Nicosia, Doughty is set to meet with Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, House President Annita Demetriou, and AKEL leader Stefanos Stefanou. This visit follows a recent trip by Defence Secretary John Healey on March 5, amid the deployment of British naval assets, including the HMS Dragon and several helicopters to the region. Doughty oversees the UK's policy regarding the Cyprus problem, although no meetings with Turkish Cypriot officials are currently on his agenda. While UK authorities continue to monitor regional instability, they have deployed military experts to bolster air defenses at their bases. Doughty remains in regular contact with Minister Kombos regarding these security concerns.
