Reports emerge on status of Iranian security official Ali Larijani following Israeli strikes
Israeli Minister of Defence Israel Katz stated that Iran’s security chief, Ali Larijani, was killed during overnight Israeli military strikes across Iran. While some Israeli media and government officials reported his death, other sources indicate that the military targeted him but his current condition remains unconfirmed. Larijani, a former parliament speaker and nuclear negotiator, was appointed secretary of the Supreme National Security Council in August 2025. The strikes also reportedly targeted Gholamreza Soleimani, the head of the Basij Resistance Force, with assessments of the outcome ongoing. The Israeli military also reported destroying an aircraft at Tehran’s Mehrabad airport previously used by the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei for official travel. Iran has not yet provided an official comment regarding the status of Larijani. Recently, the United States issued a $10 million reward for information regarding Larijani and nine other figures linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
