Energy infrastructure in UAE targeted by drone attacks
On the 17th day of the conflict between Iran and regional powers, drone attacks have struck critical energy infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates. Reports confirm that the Fujairah oil terminal was targeted for the second consecutive day, leading to fires and forcing the state oil company Adnoc to suspend crude oil loading operations. Separately, the Shah gas and oil field, a joint venture between Adnoc and Occidental Petroleum located west of Abu Dhabi, was hit by a drone on Monday, causing a significant fire. Local authorities in the UAE have deployed civil defense and firefighting teams to contain the incidents at both locations. No casualties have been reported from these strikes. The Fujairah port is a strategic hub exporting approximately one million barrels of Murban crude oil daily, accounting for roughly 1% of global demand. Iran has signaled these actions as retaliation for alleged American and Israeli operations against its territory. The incidents underscore the increasing vulnerability of regional energy infrastructure amid the ongoing military escalation.
