Chelsea FC receives record fine from Premier League for historical financial breaches
The Premier League has imposed a record fine of 10.75 million pounds (approximately 12.5 million euros) on Chelsea FC for breaches of financial reporting, third-party investment, and youth development regulations. These violations occurred between 2011 and 2018 during the ownership of Roman Abramovich. Investigations revealed that undisclosed payments were made to players, unlicensed agents, and other third parties. Additionally, the club faced a one-year transfer ban for the first team, which is currently suspended for two years, and a nine-month immediate transfer ban specifically affecting the academy. The current club management self-reported these potential breaches to the league in 2022 after identifying the irregularities. This penalty exceeds the previous record fine of 5.5 million pounds, which was issued to West Ham in 2007. The club has cooperated with the authorities to address the historical financial reporting errors.
