Diko party presents Nicosia candidates for 2026 legislative elections
On Monday, March 16, at 6:30 p.m., Diko party leader Nicolas Papadopoulos presented the party's list of candidates for Nicosia for the upcoming 2026 legislative elections at the POED hall. Papadopoulos stated that the list includes prominent figures, with a strong representation of women and youth, as part of the party's effort to increase voter mobilization. He emphasized that the country is at a critical juncture, advocating for political responsibility and warning against populism. During his speech, he criticized other parties for their approach to the recent foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, claiming their obstruction of containment measures exacerbated the virus's spread. Conversely, he highlighted that Diko successfully secured compensation for farmers from both the European Commission and the government, covering animal replacement costs and lost profits. Regarding geopolitical issues, Papadopoulos noted that Diko condemned Iran following the conflict in the Middle East and requested a military presence from the European Union. He accused other political parties of failing to recognize the security risks faced by Cyprus. These statements reflect the party's goal to maintain its role as a regulatory political power.
