Reports of cat shootings in Larnaca and Paphos

The Movement of Ecologists – Citizens’ Cooperation has reported three incidents of animal abuse involving cats in Larnaca and Paphos. In Larnaca, a cat was reportedly shot with an air gun in a residential area. Two additional incidents were reported in the Paphos district. On February 16, 2026, a cat found paralyzed in Paphos was euthanized after X-rays confirmed a bullet in its body. A second cat in Paphos was discovered with multiple pellets in its body. The political party criticized the initial police response to the Paphos cases as inadequate, although they acknowledged that complainants were scheduled to visit the Paphos Central Police Station following subsequent communication. The Movement has called for a thorough investigation of these incidents, stricter enforcement of animal welfare laws, and a review of firearm possession regulations, citing concerns over public safety in residential neighborhoods.
