Ministry of transport presents 2025 development plan and new EV subsidy strategy

On Monday, Minister of Transport Alexis Vafeadis presented the ministry's development plans and 2025 project progress. The strategy is built upon four pillars: faster transportation, green transition, improved infrastructure, and enhanced public service. The minister highlighted that the Department of Road Transport is drafting a new subsidy program for electric vehicles that will extend until 2030. Currently, the transition to electric mobility still requires government support, as prices for electric cars remain higher than those of internal combustion vehicles, influencing consumer choices. Unlike previous schemes under the Recovery and Resilience Plan that ended in 2026, the new program will provide annual grants to align with national energy and climate obligations. The policy also encompasses major road projects, ports, airports, and public transport systems. Minister Vafeadis emphasized that the market has not yet reached a level of maturity to shift to electric mobility independently without state intervention.
