European Union announces 458 million euro humanitarian aid package for 2026
The European Commission has confirmed a 458 million euro humanitarian aid package for 2026 to support populations in the Middle East. The funds are designated for Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt to address ongoing humanitarian crises. Specifically, Syria will receive 210 million euros for emergency interventions and protection. Palestine is allocated 124 million euros for food, health, housing, and education services in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Lebanon will receive 100 million euros for medical care, housing, and education. Jordan is set to receive 15.5 million euros for refugee and health support, while Egypt is allocated 8 million euros for multi-sectoral aid. European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, stated that this funding is intended to uphold international humanitarian law in the region. The Commission noted that this package represents a continuation of support amid shifting international donor contributions.
