Woman arrested for attempting to smuggle narcotics into Nicosia central prisons

A woman was arrested by the Nicosia drug enforcement unit (YKAN) on Sunday during a scheduled prison visit. Authorities discovered approximately 17 to 17.5 grams of a substance suspected to be crystal methamphetamine in her possession. Sources differ on the age of the suspect, reporting it as either 37 or 40. A 45-year-old inmate, who was the target of the visit, was also arrested in connection with the case. The arrest followed a period of surveillance due to prior suspicions regarding the inmate. The suspect was interrogated and reportedly admitted to involvement. The seized substance has been sent to the State General Laboratory for formal identification. The woman was released following her interrogation, pending further scientific results.
