Cyprus transport ministry reports on 2025 taxi and commercial vehicle licence distribution

In 2025, the Cyprus Ministry of Transport issued 681 taxi licences, with 408 allocated to Cypriot nationals and 273 to citizens of 20 other countries. Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades presented these figures in response to a parliamentary inquiry by MP Alexandra Attalidou. Greeks represent the largest non-Cypriot group with 114 licences, followed by 91 Georgians and 28 Russians. The remaining licences were distributed among 17 other nations including the UK, Australia, Armenia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Romania, and Albania. Regarding heavy vehicles, 530 truck licences were issued, 471 of which went to Cypriots. The Department of Road Transport clarified that it does not track active employment status, meaning possession of a licence does not confirm current residency or employment as a driver. Some sources noted concerns regarding driving side differences for certain international licence holders, while others focused purely on the demographic breakdown of professional qualifications.
