Parent associations in Kaimakli dispute demographic claims by education committee chairman
The parent and guardian associations of the 3rd public primary and nursery schools in Kaimakli have issued a statement criticizing Pavlos Mylonas, chairman of the House education committee, for his comments following a meeting on Friday. Mylonas had cited concerns over demographic shifts, claiming there are 170 children from third countries compared to six Greek Cypriot children at the nursery school, and alleged that Arabic-speaking parents are deliberately relocating children to this specific area. The associations rejected these claims as inaccurate and not representative of their discussions. They argue the actual problem is the transfer of Greek Cypriot students to nearby schools, a practice they claim is facilitated by the Ministry of Education. According to the parents, this leads to segregation and an uneven distribution of student populations. To address the school's challenges, they proposed extending the all-day program until 5 p.m., enriching activities, capping class sizes at 18, and increasing funding for the Drase program.
