Death toll from landslides in Ethiopia rises to 125
The death toll from recent landslides in the Gamo Zone of Ethiopia has reached 125, according to the South Ethiopia regional government. Authorities had previously confirmed 70 deaths as of last Thursday. The landslides were triggered by heavy seasonal rains that impacted several parts of the region. The regional communications office reported that over 11,000 individuals have been displaced by the natural disaster. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed traveled to the affected area on Saturday to assess the situation. During his visit, he met with local residents to offer condolences. The Prime Minister pledged that the federal government would provide necessary support to those affected. Efforts continue to address the humanitarian needs of the displaced population.
