Administrative Court of Appeal overturns deportation order for Nepalese national

On March 10, 2026, the Administrative Court of Appeal overturned a decision by the Administrative Court that had designated a Nepalese national as a prohibited immigrant. The woman arrived in Cyprus in 2024 as a domestic worker in Larnaca. Following her release from her first employer on May 22, 2024, she submitted a new residence permit application on January 31, 2025. According to the Civil Registry and Migration Department, she received a release letter from a second employer on April 9, 2025. She was arrested in Nicosia on May 16, 2025, after authorities determined she remained in the Republic illegally past the May 9, 2025 deadline to find new employment. The lower court had initially upheld her detention and deportation orders, arguing the administration acted correctly. However, the Court of Appeal ruled that the authorities likely erred in their calculation of when her stay became illegal. Consequently, the deportation and detention orders were canceled to address this legal ambiguity.
