Seismic activity reported off the coast of Crete
On the morning of Monday, March 16, a seismic event occurred off the coast of Crete. The Geodynamic Institute reported a magnitude of 4.1 with an epicenter 80 kilometers south-southwest of Chrysi, Lasithi. In contrast, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre recorded the earthquake as a 4.8 magnitude event, with its epicenter located 136 kilometers south of Ierapetra. Additionally, reports indicate a separate seismic event occurred on the evening of Saturday, March 14, off the coast of Chania. This earlier earthquake measured 4.5 on the Richter scale, with a focal depth of 14.2 kilometers. Its epicenter was identified as 36 kilometers southwest of Paleochora, Chania. No casualties or significant damage have been reported in connection with these events.
