Cyprus strengthens air defense and monitors regional military deployment

Cypriot Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas confirmed that the National Guard has established an operational air defense shield, integrating French Mistral systems and the Israeli-made Barak MX, currently stationed at the Andreas Papandreou airbase. While these systems have not yet engaged hostile drones or missiles, the government is finalizing procurement plans for the Greek 'Kentavros' anti-drone system and other advanced technology under the SAFE program. Military officials reported that two drones targeting British bases were downed at sea by allied interference outside Cypriot territory, following a previous drone strike on the Akrotiri base. Meanwhile, six Turkish F-16 fighter jets have been deployed in the north, which Turkish politician Kudret Ozersay characterized as a move to counter the military presence of Greece on the island. Western nations have deployed naval forces southwest of Cyprus to form a protective umbrella around the island. Officials emphasize that current defense strategies involve coordinated inter-operability between domestic and allied military assets to mitigate regional threats. Iran has officially stated that Cyprus is not a target in the ongoing conflict.
