Cyprus and India strengthen ties as foreign ministers meet in Brussels
On Sunday, March 15, 2026, Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos met with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Brussels. The meeting took place ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council and an informal working lunch with the Indian minister. Discussions focused on the Middle East conflict, with both officials emphasizing that diplomacy and dialogue remain the only path to stability. The ministers also reviewed the EU-India strategic partnership and the implementation of the EU-India free trade agreement, which was signed in January. Furthermore, they coordinated preparations for the official visit of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides to India, scheduled for late May, which aims to boost bilateral economic and strategic cooperation. The ministers also addressed Russia’s war in Ukraine and broader European security strategy. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi previously visited Cyprus in June 2025 to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two nations.
