European parliament committee adopts position on the 2028-2034 budget
The European Parliament's Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) has adopted a position regarding the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028-2034. Michalis Hadjipantela, who served as the rapporteur for the committee, announced that the proposal was adopted with 82% approval. The committee emphasizes the necessity of prioritizing the climate crisis within the future EU budget to address challenges like drought and forest fires. The adopted position advocates for an increase in resources for European environmental programs to ensure a just green transition. The committee specifically proposes that 35% of the total budget should be allocated to these initiatives. This move aims to align financial planning with the current environmental demands faced by EU member states, including Cyprus. The final framework is intended to provide the necessary funding for the effective implementation of European policies.
