Ayia Napa tourism officials meet to discuss regional instability
On March 13, a meeting took place at the Ayia Napa town hall involving tourism representatives from Cyprus and abroad to coordinate strategies for the 2026 summer season. Mayor Christos Zannetou addressed concerns regarding how developments in the Middle East may impact international tourism. He emphasized the necessity of maintaining operational status for hotels throughout the winter to demonstrate sector stability. Furthermore, Zannetou proposed that the government implement immediate support measures to prevent layoffs and ensure business continuity. Suggested interventions include partial state coverage of wage costs and extended unemployment benefits for affected employees. Participants agreed that planning, cooperation, and maintaining a composed outlook are essential to safeguard the local economy and protect jobs. These measures aim to mitigate potential negative perceptions of Cyprus in international markets.
