Iranian foreign minister denies renewed negotiations with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has categorically denied media reports, including those from the news site Axios, claiming that a direct communication channel with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff has been reactivated. Araghchi stated via social media that his last contact with Witkoff occurred before a recent U.S. military strike against Iran, which he described as an illegal act that damaged diplomatic prospects. While Axios cited U.S. officials claiming that Araghchi had sent messages regarding a ceasefire, the Iranian minister emphasized that Iran has neither requested a ceasefire nor initiated new negotiations. Araghchi accused the United States of attempting to manipulate public opinion and oil traders with false reports. Furthermore, he asserted that Tehran remains committed to defending itself against U.S. and Israeli military operations. Araghchi also reiterated that Iran continues to monitor American military activity in the region, including operations allegedly launched from the UAE and Kuwait, while maintaining that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for specific countries seeking safe passage.
