Fatal incident in Paphos basement involving charcoal heating fumes
On Sunday morning, around 9:45 a.m., a 59-year-old restaurant owner discovered his 44-year-old employee and a 32-year-old woman unconscious in a basement living area near Petra tou Romiou in the Paphos district. Authorities from the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department and Kouklia Police Station responded to the scene, where the 44-year-old man was confirmed deceased. The woman, identified as a 32-year-old Nepali national working as a domestic helper in the Paphos district, was transported to Paphos General Hospital and remains in the intensive care unit with serious respiratory problems. Police discovered a metal container with burning charcoal in the room, which appeared to have been used for heating purposes. It is believed that accumulated fumes in the enclosed space led to the man's death. While most reports indicate the discovery occurred on Sunday morning, one source incorrectly mentioned Saturday night. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the official cause of death, and the police investigation is ongoing.
