Renowned Cypriot chef Andreas Mavrommatis dies at 69

Andreas Mavrommatis, a prominent Cypriot chef and restaurateur, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the age of 69. Born in Agios Ioannis Pitsilias, he moved to Paris in the late 1970s, where he eventually established the Maison Mavrommatis culinary brand alongside his brothers. His work played a significant role in promoting Cypriot and Greek cuisine on the international stage, earning him a Michelin star in Paris. The family business grew from a small grocery store opened in 1981 to a chain consisting of multiple restaurants and boutiques across France and Cyprus. He was recognized by the Cypriot Olympic Committee for his contributions to the promotion of the Cypriot mission during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Political leaders, including the President of Cyprus, have paid tribute to his legacy as a bridge between Cypriot and French cultures.
