Websites in Cyprus affected by recent DDoS attacks

Cyprus is currently experiencing a series of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting various local websites. Communications Commissioner George Michaelides, who oversees the Digital Security Authority, confirmed the activity, describing it as a common and relatively simple type of cyberattack. These attacks function by overloading web servers with artificial traffic, rendering the affected sites inaccessible to users for the duration of the incident. Michaelides emphasized that the attacks are not sophisticated and do not require specialized skills. The targets include both governmental and non-governmental sites, suggesting there is no clear pattern or specific state-level focus. Authorities are currently investigating the motivation behind the surge in incidents. Michaelides stated that the timing could be linked to regional instability, the upcoming Cypriot presidency, or simply be a random occurrence. No lasting damage or significant security breaches have been reported beyond the temporary service disruptions.
