Partial collapse of the Castillo de Escalona in Toledo

A tower at the Castillo de Escalona in Toledo, Spain, partially collapsed at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The collapse was witnessed by visitors waiting to enter the site, which had opened to the public in April 2025. No injuries were reported, as bystanders issued warnings that allowed visitors to evacuate the area in time. The falling debris caused significant damage to five parked vehicles. Local authorities, including Mayor Álvaro Gutiérrez, responded by cordoning off the area and suspending all scheduled tours for the weekend and subsequent weeks. The incident is attributed to a combination of severe weather and delays in necessary maintenance work. Experts from the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of Castilla-La Mancha are scheduled to inspect the remaining structures to evaluate their stability and prevent further hazards.
