35-year-old arrested in Nicosia for arson and assault on a police officer

On Saturday afternoon, a 35-year-old man was arrested in Lakatamia, Nicosia, following a disturbance outside the home of a 34-year-old woman, who is reportedly his former partner. Police were called to the scene around 14:00 after the suspect began causing a disturbance and demanding personal items. During the attempted arrest, the man allegedly assaulted a police officer, striking him in the face. While reports vary on the arrival time of backup, the suspect successfully set fire to the victim's vehicle before being subdued with the assistance of additional officers. The fire was extinguished by the Fire Service, and the suspect reportedly confessed to the arson during questioning. The injured officer received first aid at the Nicosia General Hospital and was subsequently discharged. The Nicosia CID is continuing the investigation, and the suspect is expected to appear in court for a detention hearing.
