Lanaz refinery in Erbil suspends operations following drone strike
Operations at the Lanaz refinery in Erbil, northern Iraq, have been suspended following a drone attack that occurred on Saturday. Authorities confirmed that the resulting fire has been successfully contained. The Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Natural Resources stated that operations will remain halted until a full assessment of the infrastructure damage is completed. Separately, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad issued an updated security warning on Sunday advising U.S. citizens to depart Iraq immediately. This warning followed a nighttime rocket attack directed at the U.S. embassy building. The embassy explicitly cited the significant threat posed by Iran-linked militia groups in its advisory. There have been no reports of casualties from the refinery incident as of the latest update.
