EU Council reaches agreement on artificial intelligence regulatory simplification

During the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the EU, an agreement was reached regarding the simplification of artificial intelligence regulations. The proposal is part of the Omnibus VII legislative package, which aims to simplify the European Union's digital legal framework. Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna stated that these measures are essential for ensuring the EU's digital sovereignty. The initiative intends to provide greater legal certainty and a more harmonized application of rules across member states. The simplified regulations are designed to reduce administrative burdens and create better conditions for innovation and competitiveness among European companies. The Cypriot presidency prioritized this proposal to facilitate the timely implementation of the Artificial Intelligence Act. Officials emphasized that this approach will make the rules more proportionate for all member states. The Council is now prepared to coordinate with co-legislators to finalize these efforts.
