Reuters investigation identifies Banksy as Robin Gunningham

A year-long Reuters investigation into the identity of the street artist known as Banksy concludes that he is Robin Gunningham. The inquiry was triggered by Banksy’s appearance in Ukraine in 2022, where he created murals in war-torn regions near Kyiv, specifically in Horenka. Reporters observed three individuals arriving in an ambulance to create a piece featuring a man in a bathtub. Investigators utilized interviews with art experts, photographic evidence, and previously unpublished legal and police records to build their case. The evidence connects Gunningham to the company Pest Control, which manages the artist's legal and commercial affairs. This finding contradicts long-standing rumors that Banksy was Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack. Gunningham denies any connection to the artist, but the Reuters investigative team, consisting of at least 12 journalists, stands by its results. The identification process heavily relied on forensic details gathered from historic police and court records originating from the year 2000.
