Nicolas Papadopoulos proposes national campaign to protect Cyprus tourism
During a forum in Paphos on Saturday, Democratic Party (DIKO) leader Nicolas Papadopoulos discussed the state of the Cypriot economy. He stated that while the year began with strong economic prospects, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has created uncertainty for the tourism sector. To mitigate potential risks, Papadopoulos called for a coordinated national advertising and public information campaign to reassure visitors that Cyprus remains a safe destination. He confirmed that his party has requested that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, in cooperation with the hotel industry, develop contingency plans to maintain investment attraction. Papadopoulos expressed hope that the war would end quickly and that these emergency support plans would not be required. However, he emphasized that proactive planning is essential to prepare for any potential negative outcomes. The statement followed reports that some major international tour operators are currently advising citizens to consider alternative holiday destinations.
