Severe weather causes damage across Cyprus
Over the weekend of March 14-15, 2026, severe weather conditions including heavy rain and strong winds impacted Cyprus, resulting in dozens of service calls. The Fire Service reported 43 incidents between the morning and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, while other reports indicated 38 incidents over a 24-hour period. Most calls involved fallen trees, flooded properties, water pumping, and cable sparking. The Larnaca district recorded the highest number of incidents (18), followed by Famagusta (14), Limassol (9), Nicosia (8), and Paphos (3), with an additional incident handled by EMAK in Kofinou. Significant damage was reported in Ayia Napa, particularly at Nissi Beach, Sandy Bay, and Pantachou, where beach furniture was swept away. Municipal crews were deployed to restore order in affected areas, including Paralimni and Xylofagou, where roads were blocked and electrical grids were disrupted. Damage to vehicles from falling trees and to hotel structures was also documented across multiple districts. Police issued advisories urging drivers to exercise caution on the road network due to the adverse conditions.
