George Russell wins Formula One sprint race in China
Mercedes driver George Russell won the 19-lap Formula One sprint race at the Shanghai International Circuit in China on Saturday. Russell, who started from pole position, secured the victory ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and teammate Lewis Hamilton. The race featured multiple lead changes, specifically during the opening five laps when Russell and Hamilton exchanged the lead four times. Leclerc finished 0.674 seconds behind the winner following a closely contested battle with Hamilton. This result marks the first time since the 2024 Abu Dhabi finale that Ferrari has placed two cars in the top three of any Formula One race format. With this victory, Russell extended his lead in the championship standings to 11 points. McLaren driver Lando Norris finished in fourth place. The event follows a qualifying session where Kimi Antonelli was under investigation for allegedly impeding Norris, though this did not change the final race outcome.
