Parliamentary Education Committee visits schools in Kaimakli
On Friday, a delegation from the Parliamentary Education Committee visited the 3rd Primary School and 3rd Kindergarten of Kaimakli. The delegation included Chairman Pavlos Mylonas (DIKO) and members Dimitris Dimitriou (DISY), Christos Christofidis (AKEL), and Chrysis Pantelidis (DIKO). Also in attendance were Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos, representatives of the POED union, the School Board, parents' associations, and educators. The visit was prompted by parental requests regarding concerns over student demographics and school operations. Committee Chairman Pavlos Mylonas stated that in the 3rd Kindergarten, 64 out of 70 students are from third countries, while only 6 are Greek Cypriots. He further noted that over 50% of the students in local primary schools have a migratory background. The committee recognized the efforts of teachers in promoting Greek language learning and maintaining educational operations. However, Mylonas highlighted difficulties regarding communication between schools and parents of students with a migratory background due to various practical and social barriers.
