69th anniversary of the execution of Evagoras Pallikarides

March 14, 2026, marks the 69th anniversary of the execution of Evagoras Pallikarides. Pallikarides was a 19-year-old Greek Cypriot poet and a member of the EOKA resistance organization. He was arrested by British colonial authorities and subsequently sentenced to death by hanging. He remains known as the youngest and the final EOKA fighter to be executed by the British. His remains are buried at the Imprisoned Graves memorial site in Nicosia. Greek Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias commemorated the event with a public statement honoring his role in the Cypriot struggle for independence.
