Severe weather conditions impact Cyprus with heavy rain and strong winds

Cyprus is experiencing severe weather marked by heavy rainfall, strong winds, and snow in the Troodos mountains. A yellow weather warning was in effect from Saturday 7:00 AM until Sunday 7:00 AM, issued by the Meteorological Department. High winds reaching up to 7 Beaufort caused damage, with the Fire Service responding to 38 incidents over the last 24 hours. Road safety has been compromised, leading to the closure of the Dhekelia-Ormideia road due to flooding and landslides, and intermittent closures on the Kolossi-Akrotiri road caused by fallen trees. Additionally, dense fog has reduced visibility on the Palaichori-Agros mountain route. Local authorities, including the Municipality of Strovolos, remain on high alert to address potential flooding and road obstructions. Drivers are strongly urged by police to maintain low speeds, keep safe distances, and keep headlights on throughout the affected areas.
